How to perform Hajj

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and a profound spiritual journey. Below is a step-by-step guide to performing Hajj: ________________________________________
Types of Hajj
1. Hajj Al-Ifrad: Only Hajj without Umrah.
2. Hajj Al-Qiran: Hajj combined with Umrah, performed together.
3. Hajj Al-Tamattu: Perform Umrah during the months of Hajj, then Hajj separately (most common for pilgrims outside Saudi Arabia). ________________________________________
Steps of Hajj (8th–13th Dhul-Hijjah)
1. Enter the State of Ihram (8th Dhul-Hijjah)
• Make Niyyah (Intention): Begin with a sincere intention for Hajj.
• Wear Ihram: Men wear two white, unstitched cloths; women wear modest, non-scented clothing covering the body.
• Recite Talbiyah: Continuously recite: “Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka La Shareeka Laka Labbayk, Innal Hamda Wan Ni'mata Laka Wal Mulk, La Shareeka Lak." ________________________________________
2. Travel to Mina (8th Dhul-Hijjah)
• After Fajr, proceed to Mina.
• Spend the day and night in Mina, praying Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr at their times. Shorten (but do not combine) the prayers. ________________________________________
3. Day of Arafat (9th Dhul-Hijjah)
• After Fajr, travel to Mount Arafat.
• Spend the day in prayer, dua, and remembrance of Allah. This is the most crucial day of Hajj.
• At sunset, leave Arafat and proceed to Muzdalifah without praying Maghrib until you arrive. ________________________________________
4. Muzdalifah (Night of 9th Dhul-Hijjah)
• Pray Maghrib and Isha combined upon arrival.
• Collect pebbles (49 or 70) for the ritual of stoning.
• Rest overnight under the open sky. ________________________________________
5. Rami Al-Jamarat and Eid Sacrifice (10th Dhul-Hijjah)
• Return to Mina and stone the Jamrat Al-Aqaba (largest pillar) with seven pebbles, saying: “Allahu Akbar” with each throw.
• Sacrifice an animal (if performing Hajj Tamattu or Qiran).
• Men shave their heads; women trim a small portion of hair.
• You can now exit Ihram but must remain mindful of restrictions until Tawaf Al-Ifadah. ________________________________________
6. Tawaf Al-Ifadah and Sa’i (10th Dhul-Hijjah)
• Travel to Makkah for Tawaf Al-Ifadah (circumambulation of the Kaaba).
• Perform Sa’i between Safa and Marwah.
• Return to Mina for the night. ________________________________________
7. Stoning the Jamarat (11th–13th Dhul-Hijjah)
• Over the next two or three days, stone all three pillars:
o Jamrat Al-Sughra (small)
o Jamrat Al-Wusta (middle)
o Jamrat Al-Aqaba (largest)
• Throw seven pebbles at each, saying “Allahu Akbar” with each throw. ________________________________________
8. Tawaf Al-Wada (Farewell Tawaf)
• Before leaving Makkah, perform Tawaf Al-Wada (farewell circumambulation of the Kaaba). ________________________________________
